Alexander Dashevsky was born in 1980 in Leningrad. Education: University of Cinema and Television, Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. Since 2005, he is a member of the IFA, since 2006 — a member of the association “ Free Culture” and “ Painting and Drawing lovers Society”.
Alexander attracted the attention of the art public in 2000, when he raised the issue of new buildings. Subsequently, his series of works “ Properties” visited the exhibitions in many cities in Russia and in Germany. The main theme of all future works of the artist — the most ordinary things and locations: Soviet communal flat, rusty abandoned objects, the area of Pulkovo heights. Cold and detached art of Dashevskii was compared with Hockney and Hopper. But the artist himself thinks that he is closer to new German wave of realism — Neo Rauch and Peter Doig.
Alexander Dashevskii works with space, or rather with how this space is represented in painting. So, in his transparent blue-gray “ Pools” or in bright green plots of Pulkovo, created under the influence of his favorite artist Diebenkorn, Dashevskii presented three-dimensional geometry. Recognizable story served as an occasion for reflection on painting, on how to image space after abstraction.
